Tea for your soul

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah."

Grace

Dear Lord,
I pray for every sister that is afraid to walk in your gracious light. I pray that whatever shadows are casting over her, you remove and let your light shine through her. Let her recognize that her dwelling place is in the favor of your kingdom. Allow her to reap fruit in dry places. May she seek you always no matter the circumstances in her life. Build in her a soul that is impenetrable to the weapons of this world.
Amen

Perseverance

Dear Lord,
I want to thank you. Thank you for every sister reading this publication. Lord, I want you to pour into her your power. A power that only you can provide. A power that allows her to push through to the other side of whatever circumstance she may be facing. Lord give her an “in spite of” strength, give her an open mind that she may be filled with wisdom as she walks through this experience. Lastly, Father grant her a heart filled with joy, for her soul knows the will of her life is anchored in your promises.
Amen

Walk It Like I Talk It

The topic, “Walk It Like I Talk It” was inspired by the Migos. The Migos, a popular hip-hop group from Atlanta created a song this year called “Walk It, Talk It” featuring Drake. Lyrics, explicit in nature and paired with an engaging beat aimed to explain that the men not only verbalize their accumulated riches and fame, it is exhibited through their presence- the way they carry themselves. Just as the Migos walk in the light of worldly riches and success, Paul tells us that we as women should walk in the light of God’s favor and grace. Why is it that we talk so greatly about the love of God all the while shying away from the spotlight of His amazing love?

“I am the least important of the apostles. I am not even fit to be called an apostle. I destroyed God’s church. But because of God’s grace I am what I am. And his grace was not wasted on me. No, I have worked harder than all the other apostles. But I didn’t do the work. God’s grace was with me.” 1 Corinthians 15:9-10

We have all felt like Paul at one time or another. At some point on our journey we’ve stopped to sip from the tainted cup of insecurity. Consuming and filling our hearts and minds with the idea that we are least important and unfit to be called. You may feel because you live in season of singleness, you are unfit to be married. Your marriage is on the verge of divorce, you weren’t called to be a wife. Estranged relationships and misbehaving children prompts the idea that God did not call you to be a mother. We feel least important on the job when we don’t get that promotion. At church, if we don’t get asked to lead this ministry or sit as that committee chairman, we believe that our service goes in vain. Paul also mentions how he attempted to destroy the church. You and I both know of something we have attempted to or successfully destroyed that left us feeling undeserving. Take a moment, fill in the blank. I have tried to/have destroyed _______.

In verse 10, Paul does something simple, yet so profound. He acknowledges God. More specifically he acknowledges God’s grace as the source of his being. Paul admits to laboring. We, like Paul, also labor- we seek counsel, we pray, remain active in faith and love. But sometimes the work we do is counterproductive to the success we hope to achieve. These tasks include crying, complaining, questioning and attempting to compromise with God. Although he worked, Paul understood that it was only through grace that he had arrived. So sis, how can we be more like Paul? How can we walk in the favor of God’s grace, with heads held high and joyful hearts? How can we stop refilling our cups from the kettle self-loathing? Keep reading.

1. Be Appreciative

Ladies, it’s time to stop hiding in the shadows of what you don’t have. Start praising and thanking God for the things He has already done. Walk in the light of your life and your current situation. Ever watched a fashion show and the runway aren’t lit? All of the models in designer threads walking in pitch black. How are the spectators supposed to admire the designer’s work? The same goes for us. How are people supposed to see God shining through us and we aren’t walking like we belong Him? Don’t you know that you are blessed no matter your current circumstance? On several occasions I have been mislabeled as “snooty”, “stuck-up”, “bourgeois”. People have said that I walk around like I am better than everyone else. My response is always the same-I don’t walk around as if I am better, but I do walk around like I AM BLESSED! As princesses to the King of Kings we are privilege to certain possessions that the world cannot provide, nor take away. So, you better walk like you have blessings! Don’t let this world convince you that what you have isn’t enough already.

2. Don’t Stop Praying

Life doesn’t stop. The enemy never sleeps. So why do we stop praying over certain areas in our lives? What I mean is not the cessation of prayer completely, but for the strength and longevity of our soul. As women, we’re all guilty of neglect. We are guilty of being negligent towards ourselves during prayer. It’s not always intentional. Because we are nurtures by nature, we focus on the spiritual health and prosperity of our children, our significant other, our jobs and the church. Intentionally, we’ll let the weight of the cross we bear bring us so low that we don’t feel worthy enough to go to God on our own behalf. But you better wake up! Know who are and who’s you are! Psalm 34:10 says, they that seek the Lord lack no good thing. Don’t stop seeking him no matter the cross you bear, no matter the chaos that surrounds you. Hold your cup out and let God fill it with all the good things this world can’t give you.

3. Listen Up!

God will speak, but you have to be ready to listen. My mom always tells me to be careful what I ask from God because I have to be ready to accept the answer and prepared to execute the task. Sometimes we get in the way of our own blessings. Instead of waiting to hear from God, we anticipate His answer and act according to our own will. We become impatient and even fearful of the answer. Let God do his work, he will say YES, NO or NOT YET. No matter the answer, He’ll guide you through with grace and poise.

4. Be Encouraging

We have a SERIOUS problem. We shouldn’t need a special day, an occasion or conference to come together and encourage one another. It should be every day! When you see a sister starting to curve her spine, round her shoulders, bow her head and bend her knees…that’s your cue! Don’t just stand there, look and wonder. Encourage her, pray with her and for her. Reminder her who her Father is. Why? Because you’ve been there before and before this life is over, you’ll be there again. Don’t believe me? Read John 16:33. When you were afraid to walk in the light of God’s grace someone spoke to you and interceded on your behalf. Now you strut wearing an accessory, a priceless gem called a testimony.
